Tour Our Cattery

Our cats palace has been designed for the tropics and with the cats comfort in mind. The cats have access to shade and the breeze.

It is easily seen from the house, so they can talk to me whenever I go outside.  I can hear them if disputes arise.

We live on a hill on 5 acres, so fortunately I do not have to be concerned about noisy studs and queens upsetting the neighbours.

Spice and Scarlet had their babies 12 hours apart on 16th May 2006.  Spice helped Scarlet with her delivery and then moved her babies in.

Fortunately, I know whose is whose.

Spice had 3 females and Scarlet's only female is a dead ringer of her dad Twitch.

The dad of Spice's kittens is Rustic.

Take a Virtual Tour of our Cattery below.

Sires Quarters Tour

My boys have large enclosures with a large kennel to sleep in. This is off the ground just how cats like to be. They have space to run, a walking wheel to run in and tree trunks to climb. There is shelving around the fenceline and shade under the trees. I think they are very happy.

Queens Quarters Tour

The girls have insect proof bedrooms attached to their runs. They live in these when they are not inside being pampered mothers. Normally they live with another female who is their friend. I try to arrange it so that friends have kittens around the same time. This makes for a more harmonious inhouse time with kittens as well. The girls have shelves to sleep on, chairs and scratching posts. Outside can be accessed even when the screen door is closed by using a cat flap. Outside they have shelves, ladders and a walking wheel. Each run has a tap, so it is easy to mop and hose out. There are six of these bedrooms with outside areas.

Kittens Play Area Tour

Inside the house, we have enclosed a large verandah with mesh. Kittens can play here in the fresh air and sunshine. There is heaps of room to stretch their legs. By the time they are eight weeks old, they have access to this area from inside the house. Spoilt babies!!

Cattery Tour

This is a view of the queens rooms, which are connected to the boys runs by a corridor. As I only have 2 males at present, they live either side and the middle room is accessible to the girls during the day. This way, I can let up to four girls get together during the day, and they can run and climb the tree trunks. I have found that by allowing the girls to get together, I have most of my females friendly with each other. As they all have loads of room, I have very few disagreements. They also have the opportunity to talk to the boys through the fence, and some choose to visit them at times. (They have to ask me first though.)

Nursery Tour

As my children have left home, I have turned their bedrooms into nurseries. The wooden door is replaced with a security screen door, so that mums and kittens are not shut off from what's going on. This way, I can spend nights with mums when they are due, and there is plenty of space for active kittens as they grow. I have three of these nurseries.
